Walmart pulls its Fox Network Advertising dollars due to Glenn Beck. Way to go Walmart!

Glenn Beck is the master of turn-off (it’s  wonder he has any kids) and is continuing to lose advertiser support for Fox Network.  I personally have boycotted FOX due to their unfair “news reporting” (what a joke that is) and am glad to see that many companies are in step with my thinking.

Who Lies Joe? Look in the Mirror!

Where does it end? All this bigotry and bias from the GOP? With the most recent rude treatment of President Obama by South Carolina’s Congressman, Joe Wilson, most of us are shaking our heads. He shouted during the President’s address to Congress, “You Lie!”, to which Democratic leaders are insisting he apologize on the House floor or they plan to admonish him.

Wilson called the White House to apologize and Obama graciously accepted his apology, but since that time Wilson has all but voided that apology by stating that he won’t be “muzzled”, turning this into a fund raising event, and refusing to apologize on the House floor.

Besides being perplexed why there is so much bad behavior in regard to health reform, I am wondering whose GOP fingers are in the wallets of the insurance companies? The GOP leaders and media keep referring to the healthcare reform as a government takeover of healthcare, rather than admitting what it is …regulating the insurance companies and improving the efficiencies of the medical community.  They misrepresent the facts, use scare tactics and have twisted this very important issue into an ugly pretzel.

Tonight, President Obama will give his speech to Congress outlining his plan for healthcare reform.  As always, there has been much discussion and high anticipation regarding his speech and the stance he will take on this monumental issue.  Will he stand firm on a “government option”?  Will he cave and consider alternatives such as a co-op or healthcare “allowance”.

Obama’s soft position on this issue to date has recieved flack from the left and the right…the right promising to oppose anything close to a public option, and the left putting their foot down that a reform bill MUST have the public option in order to create the competition needed against the large insurance industry.

Obama has stood by his goal of a bi-partisan solution, but has also given us insight about his belief that a public option is necessary.  At this point, he may have to concede to the idea of bi-partisan cum-ba-yah on the issue and just do what most Americans agree is necessary.  Democrat have the votes, so who cares what the Republicans think? 

I am confident that President Obama will support what he feels is best for the country and not for votes.  He has not side-stepped controversy just in order to secure his re-election as all the Republicans have.  If every politician in this country would care more about the “doing” instead of the “appearance of doing” we might get something done on the big issues in this country. 

The Republicans keep arguing that they are concerned about the cost.  I challenge this logic….did the Republicans care about the money it costs to fight a war? Of course not, and their argument is that we need to keep our country safe above all elese.  I agree with that, but isn’t the intention of sending our young men and women to war, both preserving Human freedoms and decency AND keeping Americans alive?  Well, why shouldn’t tax dollars be spent to keep Americans alive who are dying because they don’t have the money for proper healthcare?  Shouldn’t we start on American soil to heal our sick and ensure a healthy population before we spend money on a war overseas?  Or, better yet, aren’t both of these issues equally important?

Wake up Americans.  We don’t shop for a bargain  fire department when we have a fire, or a police department when someone is breaking into our homes. We don’t shop for the roads we can afford to take on vacation, and we don’t have to shop for schools for our kids unless we choose to do so.  All these things are provided for us by the government, because not doing so would create chaos and hardship and take away the equal rights every American is entitled to.  No one profits from these things.  Why should  healthcare be any different?

Good Health should not have to be dependant on income,  whereby if you can’t afford it, you’ll just have to be sickly or die.  Every citizen deserves a shot on being healthy.  No corporation should hold the hammer and profit from  it.

President Obama's Speech to Students Filled with Positive Advice

After much controversy, President Obama’s address to students at Wakefield High School, a racially diverse school in Arlington County, was filled with positive messages for our country’s children and nothing else. No political agenda; nothing subversive.  Just as promised, it was about:

-Staying in school, instead of dropping out

-Accepting personal responsibility

-Being Accountable

-Setting goals

-Having the work ethic to reach goals

-Not to depend on the easy way out, such as sports or music to earn a living.

-To hang in there even in spite of a challenging home life due to divorce or having a single parent

-To keep trying even when something isn’t easy or they fail the first time.

-To stop bullying when they see it.

-To help the United States find ways to do things better

President Obama Will Address American Students

How can parents object to their kids hearing a speech by our President encouraging them to stay in school? What kind of message does that send to the kids?

My bet is that these same parents allow their kids to sit for hours on MySpace or the internet where they may truly hear things that are detrimental to their well being.

Obama is a leader with all Americans in his heart and he is trying to clear up the mess that Bush left him. He is also a good role model for young African American males and should be inspiration for everyone to believe in the American Dream.

The school speech controversy is STUPID! And I hope that reasonable people will begin to speak up when their neighbors or co-workers make the stupid alarmist remarks they do. I feel sorry for the children who are withheld from school during the speech as they will have one of the most historical events of their lives blocked.  I can’t understand why Parents can’t give their kids the opportunity to listen to the speech and then talk it over with them after school.  Doesn’t that make more sense? Or don’t they want their kids to develop critical thinking or have conversations with their children?

Everyone has a right to their political opinion, but the President of our country deserves more respect!  And with all the really important things going on in the world, what a petty beef this is!

Maybe it’s just me, but I am very confused about what country the Republicans think they live in.  I mean, aren’t we all citizens of the United States and regardless of age, race, religion, gender OR political affiliation supposed to support our country and its President? 

I have been registered Independent most of my adulthood because my views didn’t align entirely with one side or the other. But I have to say right now, I would not want to call myself Republican.  I wouldn’t want to be seen as someone who wishes failure for our current President, or votes against measures intended to improve the economic situation with no better suggestions.  If they don’t have better solutions, I wish they would end their complaining!  They sound like such poor losers!

I feel it is important to maintain the two party platform so that we have different views represented which ensure some checks and balances.  BUT the Republicans I see stepping up to the podium to represent this party’s views leave much to be desired. Their message, delivery of the message (Bobby Jindal!), and politcal stature (Rush Limbaugh?)  make me shake my head.  They all seem to be arrogant, out of touch, biased and hell bent on voting opposite Obama’s agenda NO MATTER WHAT!  We all agree in  our right to freedom of speech, but at times the voices of the Republican party and its constituents sound traitorous to me.

I would respect their views if they seemed ready to compromise on some issues and not on others.  That would make me think that they are truly weighing the options and voting in the best interest of our country.  But their real agenda becomes more obvious and objectionable to me every day.

I have decided there is no reason to position myself any longer as an independent, because lately the only personal comfort I feel is when I look to the left.  I am now a democrat, and sure of that.

Timothy Geithner, United States Secretary of the Treasury

I am getting so sick of the bickering between the two political parties about the economy and what we should do about it, aren’t you? Seems like it’s time to just pull together! One thing that especially bugs me is the criticism of Geithner. He took over the job as President Obama’s Secretary of the Treasury on January 26, 2009, about 60 days ago. Talk about an ugly job! It’s like accepting the job as Captain of the Titantic right after it hits the icebergs! I have had jobs during my banking career where I was still in training after 60 days! I picture his office filled with unpacked boxes while he is trying to put out fires from sunrise to sunset. I’ll bet he doesn’t even have his business cards yet! Let’s see…what does he do all day long? Well he is directing the nation’s economic response to the current financal crisis, directing how $350 billion of bailout money is being allocated. He is dealing with the sinking automobile industry, the restructuring of banks, financial institutions and insurance companies, addressing the mortgage bust, new tax proposals, and working with foreign governments in a similar financial crises. What does he do in his spare time?? While he is busy doing his job, he is being criticized by the media for his public personality “syle” and the timing of his delivery of financial decisions. Hey..the guy is busy trying to save our financial butts!! And why did all this happen? How did Banks get too big to fail? Can you spell deregulation? Okay. I hate the fact that Wall Street fat cats got millions of our tax money, but being a banker myself, I understand a thing or two about legal documents. He has lost public support because of the AIG bonuses that were paid out, but he didn’t write the contracts, and we are a nation of laws so what was he to do? Hindsight is 20/20. As far as his communication style goes, here’s my take on that. I worked for 25 years of my career at Bank of America working with CFO’s, COO’s and Purchasing Managers of large corporations. Many of these executives were financial brainiacs with brilliant minds but not necessarily a sparkling personality. They worked with complex companies and kept the wheels greased, watching over the budget, securing financing and all that boring stuff. They were successful people, but could have never made it as speech givers or television personalities. I believe this is exactly the type of person Geithner is. And to be truthful, I would rather have a financial nerd with his experience (check out his work experience prior to this appointment on Wikipedia!) than some charismatic toastmaster who is camera ready but half qualified. Come on, can’t we just give the guy a chance? I doubt he’s getting much sleep!
